The committee meets twice a year to review the effectiveness of steps taken by the institution to curb ragging and to make timely decisions as required.
Objectives
- To create a ragging-free atmosphere inside and outside the campus.
- To create awareness among students regarding acts and punishments associated with ragging activities.
- To foster cordial relationships among students to fulfill the organization’s mission and objectives.
- To make students aware of how self-confidence can influence national interests.
- To implement the provisions of UGC regulations on curbing the menace of ragging.
- To regulate and punish individuals involved in ragging as per the UGC Regulation, 2009.
What Constitutes Ragging?
Ragging constitutes one or more of the following acts:
- Any conduct, whether by words spoken, written, or by an act, that teases, treats, or handles with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
- Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities that cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm, or raise fear or apprehension in a fresher or any other student.
- Forcing a student to perform acts they would not ordinarily do, causing fear, shame, torment, or embarrassment, adversely affecting their physique or psyche.
- Acts by senior students that prevent, disrupt, or disturb the regular academic activities of other students or freshers.
- Exploiting a fresher or other students for academic tasks assigned to an individual or group.
- Acts of financial extortion or forceful expenditure imposed on freshers or other students.
- Physical abuse, including sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, obscene acts, gestures, causing bodily harm, or endangering health or safety.
- Abuse via spoken words, emails, public insults, or actions deriving sadistic pleasure or authority over others.
- Acts that affect the mental health or self-confidence of a fresher or other students, either intentionally or unintentionally.
Provision of Punishment as Recommended by UGC
Depending on the nature and severity of the offence, punishments for those found guilty of ragging at the institution may include:
- Cancellation of admission.
- Suspension from attending classes.
- Withholding or withdrawing scholarships, fellowships, or other benefits.
- Debarring from appearing in tests, examinations, or evaluations.
- Withholding results.
- Debarring from representing the institution in regional, national, or international events such as meets, tournaments, or festivals.
- Suspension or expulsion from the hostel.
- Rustication from the institution for 1 to 4 semesters.
- Expulsion from the institution and barring admission to any other institution.
- A fine of ₹25,000.
- Collective punishment when offenders are not identified, ensuring community pressure acts as a deterrent.
Functions of the Anti-Ragging Committee
- To consider complaints received from students, conduct enquiries, and submit reports to the Anti-Ragging Committee along with recommended punishments for offenders.
- Oversee the process of obtaining undertakings from students in accordance with relevant provisions.
- Conduct workshops to raise awareness and orient students against the menace of ragging.
- Provide students with information regarding contact addresses and telephone numbers of designated personnel for receiving complaints or distress calls.
- Create awareness among students about anti-ragging policies and measures.
- Take all necessary measures to prevent ragging within the campus and hostels.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Institute has established an Anti-Ragging Committee, led by the Head of the Institution, to ensure preventive and monitoring mechanisms against ragging are in place. The committee also ensures provisions for appropriate actions against students involved in or abetting ragging.
Coordinator
- Conduct surprise raids at locations prone to ragging incidents or with potential for such activities.
- Carry out on-the-spot enquiries into incidents of ragging reported by faculty, students, parents, or guardians, and submit enquiry reports along with recommendations to the Head of the Institution for immediate action.
- Ensure the Anti-Ragging Squad regularly patrols the campus to monitor student behavior effectively.
- Set up suggestion boxes within the college to allow students to report complaints or problems anonymously.
- Initiate timely actions against students violating the Anti-Ragging policy.
- Address complaints of ragging following government and university procedures.
- Maintain records of all activities conducted and submit them to the IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) Committee.

- Keeping a vigilant watch and preventing incidents of ragging in areas of student aggregation such as classrooms, canteens, buses, grounds, hostels, etc.

Constitution of Anti-Ragging Squad
The members of the Anti-Ragging Squad are nominated by the Head of the Institution, ensuring adequate representation from various sections of the campus community.
The squad comprises faculty members, with a Nodal Officer appointed by the college.

Functions of the Anti-Ragging Squad
- The squad, led by the Nodal Officer, ensures the effective implementation of anti-ragging measures in the college.
- Conduct vigilance, oversight, and patrolling in ragging-prone areas, including hot spots.
- Inspect vulnerable areas and arrange surprise visits to hostels and other locations.
- Investigate ragging incidents and make recommendations to the Anti-Ragging Committee.
Affidavit by Students
To ensure strict compliance with anti-ragging measures, all students must sign an affidavit affirming they will not indulge in or abet ragging. Students are made aware of the severe penalties under UGC regulations, including the following affirmations:
- They have not been expelled or debarred by any institution.
- They will not participate in ragging activities, directly or indirectly.
Freshers and seniors alike are required to sign this affidavit at the time of admission and annually thereafter.
Affidavit by Parents
Parents or guardians must also sign an affidavit confirming their understanding of the UGC regulations on ragging. This ensures collective accountability for preventing such activities on campus.
Display of Anti-Ragging Information
The names and contact numbers of the Anti-Ragging Squad members will be:
- Uploaded on the college website.
- Displayed prominently across campus, including the main entry passage.
Complaint Box
Complaint boxes are placed in visible locations across the college for students to report grievances or provide suggestions.
- These boxes are accessed weekly by the Nodal Officer.
- In the absence of the Nodal Officer, a designated person will handle the complaints and report to the Anti-Ragging Committee.
Online Anti-Ragging Feedback Mechanism
The college collects online feedback from freshers between July to September to address any ragging-related grievances.
- The feedback is analyzed, and complaints are forwarded to the Anti-Ragging Committee for appropriate action.
