Post Graduate Diploma in Management

ADMISSION PROCESS – PGDM

PGDM or Post Graduate Diploma in Management is a two-year postgraduate diploma program that offers practical knowledge of business management. PGDM is very similar to an MBA and both deal with management studies at the postgraduate level. PGDM programs are more industry-oriented while MBA programs are more theoretical in approach.

The basic eligibility criteria required to pursue a PGDM course is that of candidates having cleared their graduation across any discipline (preferably from commerce or management background) with an aggregate score of 50% or above or an equivalent CGPA from a recognised university. PGDM Admission is mostly based on various management entrance exams like MAT, CAT, XAT, and SNAP.

PGDM in comparison to MBA or other management courses is pursued at a larger scale for the fact that the PGDM Syllabus is market and industry-oriented. It follows current trends in the market and melds its syllabus accordingly.

Why Pursue PGDM?

PGDM is considered as one of the most in-demand course amongst the students who want to pursue their careers in the management field. With a degree in PGDM candidates will not only have the opportunity to work across top organizations across managerial levels but also will have lucrative salary packages as compared to other management degrees.

Specialised Course: Compared to other courses, PGDM courses study a deeper level of scientific understanding of the task. A few of the popular PGDM courses offered to students are PGDMs in marketing management, financial management, human resource management, and many more. Major industry components that are not included in MBA courses are introduced to students in PGDM courses.

Industry Centric: Compared to MBA degrees, PGDM courses provide more focus on industry-centric subjects. This is because the curriculum and routine procedures for MBA courses remain the same from year to year. Nonetheless, PGDM courses have annual variations in their curriculum due to shifts in the market. These courses keep students ahead of other obsolete education techniques that have been used for years by helping them study the facts and get an understanding of the current market conditions. The PGDM programme is a great option for those who want to pursue business because it emphasises horizontal rather than vertical abilities.

Lucrative Course: These courses are profitable because they provide highly sought-after skills that employer’s value, boosting the likelihood that a student will find work. PGDM programmes have gained prominence and drawn interest from graduates seeking employment in the industrial sector. This is because the program’s skill-based approach enables students to pursue lucrative and well-paying career options. The PGDM’s skill-based courses assist students in developing their talents prior to graduation, enhancing their employability and demand.

Pursuing a Successful Corporate Career: A PGDM degree is highly valued in the corporate sector and is regarded as having more potential than an MBA degree. Because the courses offered in this degree are specialised and skill-based, PGDM courses provide as a direct pathway into the business sector. However, in order to get the same outcome, an MBA degree requires more coursework than a PGDM. As they assist students in selecting a suitable career from their highly sought-after specialisations during the academic year, PGDM courses serve as self-contained career counsellors.

Personality Development: Compared to other traditional courses, these courses increase students’ success rate by preparing them to handle challenges in the workplace.
Students’ critical thinking, communication, and leadership abilities are all strengthened by PGDM, which also provides the groundwork for the development of more robust and accurate decision-making abilities.

When to do a PGDM?

PGDM course is done to upgrade the skills and meet the requirements of the industry by imparting practical approach. The perfect time of doing a PGDM course depends upon the individual.

PGDM course after the completion of graduation will not be as much fruitful as having an experience of a few years on the back. Major companies require 3-4 years of work experience and relevant skill addition in the resume in order to earn that fat pay check that everyone dreams and also for a managerial level job.

Due to the high rewarding nature of PGDM courses, there is huge demand for it. This has led to high costs associated with the Diploma degree. Students must be ready to cope financially. Many students are unable to bear the high cost of a PGDM course and leave mid-way.

Students must evaluate the value of what a PGDM course will add in their career. PGDM course is something which helps in our personality development by bringing new perspectives to our mind.
